About Dental Crowns
To repair and protect cracked teeth, yellowing enamel, substantial decay, and more concerns, dental crowns go over the whole tooth. At DentalWorks - Chicago Loop in Chicago, IL, crowns (also called caps) are sturdy, long-lasting covers that fit securely over the visible portion of the tooth for patients where dental decay is too big to be healed with a composite-resin filling or if the patient's tooth is cracked and requires protection. Crowns can also be added to cover an off-color tooth or to increase the stability to a dental bridge. Crowns by our dentists at DentalWorks - Chicago Loop can be metal, porcelain, or ceramic, based on the location of the crown. The back teeth generally need the added strength of metal, whereas the social teeth look more attractive with porcelain or ceramic crowns, which are shaded to blend with the patient's natural teeth.

"My Experience here is great. Above that I’m a new patient. My original dentist is no longer available so I went looking for a new one close to work where I won’t have to leave work early and lose pay. The staff is amazing and beyond helpful and very forward on what is needed for me to take care of myself.UPDATE - I don’t publish feedback unless I mean it. So here it goes. They are still the best! 💪 ❤️ I was out for a year traveling for work and by keeping up with my health and using the necessary tools to stay healthy; as suggested, I was happy to come back for my check up and cleaning. The staff, as always, is Fabulous and the communication with patients is top notch! I recommend anyone who wants a new dentist! I literally now look forward to the dentist... and not many people say that!"- G.H. / Google / Nov 23, 2019

What to Expect
To craft a customized crown, our dentists first prep the tooth by taking off a slim layer of enamel before taking digital X-rays and physical impressions of the tooth, which will be delivered to a dental lab. A temporary crown will be placed over the tooth while the permanent, custom crown is being made. Once the permanent, custom crown is returned to DentalWorks - Chicago Loop in Chicago, IL, our dentists will carefully fit and set the crown over the tooth. Our dentists can modify the crown for a more comfortable fit.
Some patients can have short-term soreness or heightened tooth sensitivity, however most patients don't experience any discomfort once the crown is placed. With correct home care and recommended dental cleanings and exams, a dental crown can remain in place for at least ten years, depending on the material and placement of the crown. It is possible that a cavity or infection can develop in the tooth under the crown, which usually requires a root canal therapy or another procedure.
If the dental crown is deemed essential for the patient's health, dental insurance companies may cover some or most of the expenses, so our office staff at DentalWorks - Chicago Loop in Chicago, IL will consult with the insurance company to calculate their coverage as well as the patient's personal costs. Estimated expenses, payment options, and financing plans are available in our office in Chicago, IL and can be explained during the patient's meeting with our dentists.
