About Root Canal Therapy
If the soft inner section of the tooth (also known as pulp) develops an infection, it can create a lot of pain and the whole tooth starts to die if the contamination is not removed. A root canal treatment by our dentists at DentalWorks - Chicago Loop in Chicago, IL removes the diseased pulp from the tooth, which can preserve the tooth and allow proper recovery begin. To protect and strengthen the tooth after the pulp is removed, a filling substance can be added in the tooth or else a crown can be positioned on the tooth by our dentists. If the diseased pulp is not cured, other teeth can become infected, plus the infection may pass into the blood flow and infect other sections of the body. At DentalWorks - Chicago Loop in Chicago, IL, our dentists perform root canal procedures to aid patients and bring back their oral health.
"Dr. Patel is, hands down, one of the best dentists in Chicago. I haven't lived in Chicago since 2016 (I'm currently based in Boston) but I always fly back for my bi-yearly visits because I haven't been able to find anyone as amazing, nice, and honest as Dr. Patel. I've seen dentists who have lied that I needed to fill cavities that never existed or tried to convince me to get a $250 deep gum cleaning (whatever that is), but Dr. Patel has been always honest about the health of my teeth. I promise he's one of the good guys. Also, I saw a review here saying that Dr. Patel became upset when a patient said she would be seeking a second opinion... that seems like an exaggeration and frankly, a lie. I've done that twice to him in regards to a root canal procedure and a cavity fill, and he's always encouraged me to seek the opinions of other dentists."- N.L. / Yelp / Sep 13, 2018

"Very pleasant experience had a dental problem and was able to get in and be seen and treated in a timely effective manner"- M.C. / Google / Aug 01, 2018
"I chose DentalWorks because of the wonderful reviews that I read online. Dr. Patel is my dentist. He's kind and sensitive to the needs of the patient. I told him "I want my smile back...". With that, he devised a plan that I agreed to and have already gotten started on. Besides my initial visit for consultation and xrays. I've only had three visits to date. But I can truly say, I had "NO PAIN!" (Just pinch that come with deadening the gums which they treat first with a solution)Dr. Patel explains what he's doing as he works through the procedure. I couldn't tell a tooth had been extracted. I had several extractions and several fillings so far. When Dr. Patel comes in the room, he greets you and make you feel comfortable and tells you a lil about the procedure he's about to do. The cost for my plan is quite $$$... to have everything done. But in the end, its going to make me not only look better, but feel better about myself and that makes it worth it! The staff and assistants are very professional, kind and just nice people.Thank you, Dr. Patel for being kind, fun and putting me at ease during my visits. I'm happy I chose DentalWorks."- G.V. / Google / Jul 14, 2018
What to Expect
A root canal therapy is generally done with local anesthesia to numb the gums and teeth, plus our dentists may include sedation if needed. Our dentists will take out the pulp from the diseased tooth or teeth, then our dentists will put on a crown or insert filling material. A few patients are at a greater risk of getting an infection (most often patients with heart concerns like congenital defects and artificial heart valves, so our dentists can prescribe a treatment of antibiotics before and after the root canal procedure.
If only local anesthesia is used, the patient will be able to drive and recuperate at home, however certain sedation options may require the person to have a dependable adult take them home. Patients will have temporary numbness and a few patients may have minor discomfort that can generally be remedied with an over-the-counter pain reliever. If a temporary crown was set over the treated tooth, the permanent crown will be placed and secured by our dentists at another appointment. After a root canal, oral care consisting of brushing and flossing at home, plus visits to DentalWorks - Chicago Loop as recommended by our dentists are critical to maintain the well-being of the treated tooth or teeth.
