About Tooth-Colored Fillings
One of the best reasons to schedule a yearly oral examination is so our dentists at DentalWorks - Chicago Loop can catch issues, including dental cavities, gum disease, and tooth decay in their early stages. Tooth-colored fillings, or composite resin fillings, can fill and seal a section of the tooth enamel that has been infected with bacteria. Tooth-colored fillings can also be used to treat cracked or broken teeth, as well as teeth that have become worn down from teeth grinding, nail-biting, and misuse. Unlike worn out metal fillings, tooth-colored fillings are made from a composite resin that can be colored to match the natural teeth for fillings that maintain the attractive appearance of the smile. A composite resin filling is a quick, easy treatment at our Chicago, IL office by our dentists. With proper care, a tooth-colored filling can protect the teeth for about ten years.
"Dr. Patel is, hands down, one of the best dentists in Chicago. I haven't lived in Chicago since 2016 (I'm currently based in Boston) but I always fly back for my bi-yearly visits because I haven't been able to find anyone as amazing, nice, and honest as Dr. Patel. I've seen dentists who have lied that I needed to fill cavities that never existed or tried to convince me to get a $250 deep gum cleaning (whatever that is), but Dr. Patel has been always honest about the health of my teeth. I promise he's one of the good guys. Also, I saw a review here saying that Dr. Patel became upset when a patient said she would be seeking a second opinion... that seems like an exaggeration and frankly, a lie. I've done that twice to him in regards to a root canal procedure and a cavity fill, and he's always encouraged me to seek the opinions of other dentists."- N.L. / Yelp / Sep 13, 2018

"Very pleasant experience had a dental problem and was able to get in and be seen and treated in a timely effective manner"- M.C. / Google / Aug 01, 2018
"I chose DentalWorks because of the wonderful reviews that I read online. Dr. Patel is my dentist. He's kind and sensitive to the needs of the patient. I told him "I want my smile back...". With that, he devised a plan that I agreed to and have already gotten started on. Besides my initial visit for consultation and xrays. I've only had three visits to date. But I can truly say, I had "NO PAIN!" (Just pinch that come with deadening the gums which they treat first with a solution)Dr. Patel explains what he's doing as he works through the procedure. I couldn't tell a tooth had been extracted. I had several extractions and several fillings so far. When Dr. Patel comes in the room, he greets you and make you feel comfortable and tells you a lil about the procedure he's about to do. The cost for my plan is quite $$$... to have everything done. But in the end, its going to make me not only look better, but feel better about myself and that makes it worth it! The staff and assistants are very professional, kind and just nice people.Thank you, Dr. Patel for being kind, fun and putting me at ease during my visits. I'm happy I chose DentalWorks."- G.V. / Google / Jul 14, 2018
What to Expect
A tooth-colored filling can be performed in DentalWorks - Chicago Loop with the patient under sedation for any pain and discomfort. Once the patient is prepared, our dentists will use a drill to carefully remove the decayed area of the enamel. Then, our dentists will incise the dental enamel with an acid gel to help bond the tooth-colored filling when it is finished. The resin is applied and hardened with a targeted light. Our dentists will continue to place layers of resin and harden them with the light until the tooth is sturdy and capped. Any extra resin can be removed with the drill for a smooth finish.
Immediately after the tooth-colored filling is placed and fully dried, our dentists will buff the resin for smooth edges. As soon as the sedation is gone, the patient may notice sensitivity to cold, hot, pressure, sweet tastes, and more sensations. This sensitivity is temporary and should not continue for more than 1 - 2 weeks. The patient should incorporate a regular home oral care routine, including brushing and flossing, in addition to regular exams and cleanings at DentalWorks - Chicago Loop. Our dentists will evaluate the condition of the tooth-colored filling at each visit and help the patient determine when they may consider a new filling.
Most dental insurance policies cover part of the bill of a tooth-colored filling whether it is an original tooth-colored filling or a replacement for an existing silver amalgam filling. DentalWorks - Chicago Loop will help each patient in understanding their insurancecoverage and personal cost during the consultation. For patients who don't have dental insurance, our dentists have several payment and financing options through DentalWorks - Chicago Loop in Chicago, IL.
